{"id":376,"date":"2020-01-28T10:41:52","date_gmt":"2020-01-28T15:41:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.athensoms.com\/?page_id=376"},"modified":"2020-03-11T09:58:17","modified_gmt":"2020-03-11T13:58:17","slug":"bonded-on-brackets","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.athensoms.com\/index.php\/bonded-on-brackets\/","title":{"rendered":"Bonded on Brackets"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Patients scheduled to have impacted teeth uncovered should be familiar with certain information.&nbsp; If there are further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; text-decoration: underline;\">WHAT IS AN IMPACTED TOOTH<\/span>?<\/span>\u00a0 All teeth are formed deep within the jawbones.\u00a0 They usually erupt into the mouth.\u00a0 When a tooth is blocked from reaching its normal position by another tooth or bone, it is called an impacted tooth.<\/li><li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">WHY SHOULD IMPACTED TEETH BE UNCOVERED?<\/span>\u00a0 If not uncovered to permit eruption or removed, most impacted teeth will eventually cause a problem.\u00a0 The most common problem is infection of the gum tissues around the tooth (pericoronitis).\u00a0 This infection is always painful and can potentially spread throughout the head and neck.\u00a0 Other common problems associated with impacted teeth include decay of the tooth under the gum, damage to the roots or adjacent teeth, and formation of cysts.\u00a0 Pain, infection and destruction of bone in the area can be the result.\u00a0 In addition, some impacted teeth are important to the function and the appearance of your bite.\u00a0 Your orthodontist and\/or your dentist, have determined that the involved impacted tooth is important to the overall scheme of your occlusion (bite).\u00a0 For this reason they have referred you for possible surgical uncovering and placement of a bonded on bracket.<\/li><li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">HOW ARE IMPACTED TEETH UNCOVERED?<\/span>\u00a0 The procedure for uncovering these teeth requires an incision in the gum, exposing and removing a portion of the bone that is blocking the tooth from coming in.\u00a0 If indicated, the tooth crown will be etched with acid and a bonded on bracket will be adapted.\u00a0 This bracket has a chain attached to it that will be used by your orthodontist with elastic traction to pull the tooth into its proper position.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Patients scheduled to have impacted teeth uncovered should be familiar with certain information.&nbsp; If there are further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
